Around nine o’clock at night on September 2, 2024, the Coast Guard received a call reporting that a boat had struck the river’s break wall, perhaps resulting in a fatal accident in Old Saybrook. Numerous personnel from neighboring towns quickly reacted to the call and prepared to locate the missing people from the Connecticut River.
Furthermore, the assistance crew quickly rescued six of the nine Old Saybrook residents who were on board at the time of the boat accident. But because the tragedy happened at night, the rescue squad was unable to locate the three men, who are believed to be in their mid-to late-20s. It was challenging to locate them because they were not donning their life jackets.

One of the State’s oldest towns, Old Saybrook has a rich history and has prospered recently as a hub for the Connecticut River and the Long Island Sound. Moreover, boats frequently carry passengers between these two locations including Old Saybrook, providing multiple tourists with round-trip transportation. The firms also provide a tour that takes one hour and twenty minutes, which includes a fast ferry ride.
Numerous boat incidents have occurred in the area over the years, including the most recent one that left three individuals missing. Owing to the regularity of these situations, Connecticut Public Radio introduced a safety segment that gave listeners tips on how to stay safe when swimming.
